Kwikset Powerbolt 250 Programming Instructions
If you’re looking for programming instructions for your Kwikset Powerbolt 250 Electronic Door Lock, this post is for you.
This post includes a video tutorial to help you program your lock. Let’s dive in!
Video Tutorial:
Reset the Lock
The first programming step I recommend is to reset the lock. This is going to remove all existing codes and return the lock to factory defaults. This is helpful if you just moved into a new house or acquired a previously used lockâyou want to make sure all existing codes are removed for security reasons.
Follow these steps to reset the Lock:
- Go to the interior assembly of the lock and take off the battery cover.
- Find the Programming button (a black round button below the battery pack).
- Press and hold the button for 15 seconds. You should hear a long beep after 15 seconds. Release the button and press it once. You should hear another long beep, meaning the reset is successful.
Door Handing Detection
After the reset, the next step is to perform the door handing detection. This helps the lock to learn the direction of your door (left or right-handed) for proper locking/unlocking.
Follow these steps to perform the door handing detection:
- Press and release the Programming button
- Quickly go to the keypad and press 0. Then press the Kwikset button.
- You should see the latch bolt extend and retract to learn the door’s orientation.
Adding User Codes
A User Code is used to unlock the deadbolt from the outside. The code is usually 4-8 digits long and you can add up to 25 User Codes.
Follow these steps to add a User Code:
- Go to the interior assembly and press the Programming button
- Go to the keypad, press 1, and press the Kwikset button. Then enter your new code (4-8 digits) and press the Kwikset button.
- You should see a green flash and hear a long beep, meaning the code has been successfully added.
- Test the code by locking the deadbolt (with your door opened) and entering the code to unlock.
- Repeat the steps to add more User Codes if you want.
Deleting a User Code
If you want to remove a User Code, follow these steps:
- Go to the interior assembly and press the Programming button.
- Go to the keypad and press 2 and press the Kwikset button. Then enter the unwanted code and press the Kwikset button. Enter the unwanted code again and press the Kwikset button.
- You should hear a long beep and see a green flash on the keypad, meaning the code has been removed.
- Test it to confirm it’s removed.
Setting Auto-Lock
The auto-lock feature automatically re-locks your door a few seconds after unlocking. However, the feature is disabled by default so you’ll need to enable it.
Follow these steps to enable auto-lock:
- Go to interior assembly and press the Programming button.
- Press 9 on the keypad and press the Kwikset button. This will be followed by a long beep and a green flash, meaning auto-lock is enabled.
- To cancel auto-lock, repeat the exact same steps.
Setting Auto-Lock Time Delay
To set your preferred locking time, follow these steps:
- Go to the interior assembly and press the Programming button.
- Press 8 on the keypad and press the Kwikset button.
- Now set your time; press 1 for 30 seconds; press 2 for 1 minute; press 3 for 3 minutes; press 4 for 5 minutes; press 5 for 10 minutes. Then hit the Kwikset button to complete the process.
- You should hear a long beep and see a green flash, confirming successful programming.
Now your door is going to lock automatically based on the time you set.
Mute/Unmute the Lock
If you don’t want to hear any sound when you push a button on the keypad, you want to mute the lock.
Here’s how to mute the lock:
- Go to the interior assembly and press the Programming button.
- Press 5 on the keypad and press the Kwikset button.
- You should hear a long beep and a green flash, meaning the silent mode is enabled.
- To unmute the Lock, repeat the same steps.
Conclusion
I have covered the basic programming steps as you’ll see in the user manual. So if you don’t have your user manual, this post should be your go-to resource. If you’re a visual learner, the video tutorial above covers all the programming steps to get your lock working correctly.
