How to Set Up a BG Wi-Fi Extender Socket?

There are three methods to configure your BG Wi-Fi Range Extender; via WPS, QR Code, or a Web Browser. In this guide, I’ve covered the three methods of setting up a BG Wi-Fi Extender. Let’s dive in!

Method 1: Setting Up a BG Wi-Fi Extender Socket via the WPS

Follow the steps below to set up your BG Wi-Fi Extender via WPS:

1. Power on the Device

So the first step to setting up your BG Wi-Fi Extender is to power it on. But before that, make sure the extender is properly installed—following the wiring instructions on the user manual.

And ensure the device is positioned halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone. You can use the signal strength indicator on your smartphone to determine the perfect place to install the device.

If your extender is successfully installed, turn it on and wait for the LED indicator to illuminate blue. Wait a few seconds more for the blue light to start blinking. When this happens, it means your extender is in pairing mode, so you can proceed with the setup.

If the blue indicator light isn’t blinking, press and hold the “WPS/RST” button on the socket (for about 5 seconds) until it starts blinking. Now continue to the next step.

2. Press the WPS Button on Your Router and Extender

Find the WPS button on your router, then long-press it for about 5 seconds. Next, press the WPS/RST button once on your BG Wi-Fi Extender Socket.

3. Watch the LED Indicator

The LED indicator will blink orange while connecting to your router. And when the connection is complete, the LED will change to solid blue.

4. Connect Your Devices

You can now connect your Wi-Fi-enabled devices using your existing Wi-Fi network name.

Note that this method only works for routers that have the WPS button. If your router doesn’t have the WPS button, try other setup methods below.

Method 2: Setting Up Your BG Wi-Fi Extender Via QR Code

1. Turn on the Extender

Switch the extender on and wait for the LED indicator to light blue and then blink afterward.

2. Connect to the Extender’s Network

On your mobile phone or tablet, check for available Wi-Fi networks and connect to “BG” (no password required). If you can’t find BG on your list of networks, reset the extender and try searching for new Wi-Fi networks on your phone. If you’re not sure how to reset the BG extender, scroll down to the ‘Related Questions’ section in this post to see how to reset it.

3. Scan the QR Code

Look for the QR Code in the manual that comes with your extender. Scan the code to take you directly to the setup page.

4. Extend Your Network

On the setup page, select the Wi-Fi network you want to extend and enter the Wi-Fi router password.

Next, tick the box that says, “Set Local & Internet SSID as the same”. This will change the name of the BG network to match your existing router network name.

Now click “Next” and then click “Apply”.

5. Setup is Complete

The Wi-Fi LED indicator will illuminate blue, showing that the device is ready to be used.

And that’s all about setting up your BG Wi-Fi Extender Socket via the QR Code method. Your devices will connect to it through your existing Wi-Fi network name.

Method 3: Setting Up a BG Wi-Fi Extender Through a Web Browser

1. Turn on the Device

Switch the extender on and wait for the LED indicator to illuminate blue and then blink rapidly.

2. Connect to the BG Network

Go over to your mobile device (phone or tablet) list of Wi-Fi networks and connect to “BG”. If “BG” is not in the list of available Wi-Fi networks, long-press the WPS/RST on the extender for about 5 seconds.

Return to your mobile device to see if the BG network is now available in the list of Wi-Fi networks. If so, connect to it and continue to the next step.

3. Open the Management Page

Once you can connect to the BG network, open a web browser on your phone or tablet. Next, type in http://bg.repeater.net into your browser address bar and hit ‘search’.

4. Extend Your Network

On the setup page, select the Wi-Fi network you want to extend and enter the Wi-Fi router password. Tick the box that says, “Set Local & Internet SSID as the same”. This will change the BG network name to match your current router network name. Tap “Next” and then tap “Apply” to complete the process.

So that’s it. The Wi-Fi LED indicator will illuminate blue light, indicating that the device is ready to be used. Your device will connect using your existing Wi-Fi network name.
