But if that doesn’t help, keep reading to see some more troubleshooting tips to help fix the problem.

Fixes for Defender Camera Night Vision Problems

Reboot the Camera

This is the first step to fixing this issue. Rebooting the camera may correct internal errors that might be causing the camera’s night vision not to work.

To reboot your Defender camera, unplug it from the power outlet. Then wait a few seconds and then plug it back in.

That should get the night vision to work perfectly again. However, if that doesn’t resolve the problem, continue to the next step.

Check for Power Issues

Another way to troubleshoot night vision problems in your Defender camera is to ensure that the camera is receiving sufficient power.

The camera needs sufficient power to activate the night vision mode. If it’s not getting sufficient power supply, night vision may not come up at night.

So, how do you know if the camera is getting the required energy supply? Cup your hands around the front of the camera and observe the LEDs. If the LEDs aren’t glowing red, then you need to check the power supply.

Check if the cabling is okay. Also, check if the power outlet to which the camera is plugged is working well.

If this doesn’t fix the problem, you might need to check how much light reaches the camera at night. The next step should address that.

Check the Ambient Light Around the Camera

Your camera’s night vision will automatically turn on when light levels drop. If the camera detects too much light in the area, that can delay or prevent the camera from switching to night vision.

So, check and be sure there is no bright light in the environment at night. This might mean turning off some light bulbs and removing lights that directly shine on the camera’s lens.

Additionally, you need to know that infrared night vision will not function through a window. If your camera is positioned inside, looking out through a window, it will only result in a reflection that may prevent obstruct the night vision.

Reset the Camera

If the issue persists after trying the fixes above, try resetting the camera. This usually helps to fix incorrect settings or internal glitches preventing the night vision mode from working.

Don’t worry, resetting the camera won’t delete files from the SD card. However, you may lose your custom settings.

Follow the steps below to reset your defender camera:

  • Use a screwdriver to unscrew the two screws at the lower cover to access the reset button
  • Now press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds
  • The LED light beside the reset button will start flashing green
  • Now your camera is reset, and you go set it up again.
