Zmodo Camera Night Vision Not Working [How to Fix]
Are you having some problems with your Zmodo camera night vision? Then you are in the right place to get all the information you need to fix it.
In the following paragraphs, I’ll walk you through some handy tips to help you get your Zmodo camera night vision to work properly.
First, there may be several reasons why your Zmodo camera night vision is not working properly—from power issues to IR LED and firmware issues. However, a quick fix for these is to power cycle the camera. Simply unplug the camera from power and plug it back in after 5 seconds. That should fix any issue you might be having with the camera’s night vision.
However, if this doesn’t help, no worries. Keep reading for more details on how to go about this issue.
How to Fix Zmodo Camera Night Vision Problems
Reboot the Camera
As I said earlier, a quick power cycle can help correct many issues you might be having with your camera. And that includes its night vision.
So, simply unplug the camera from the power outlet and then plug it back in after about 20-30 seconds. Wait for the camera to restart and then test to see if the night vision is working fine now.
But if this doesn’t fix the issue, move on to the next step.
Check for Power Issues
Zmodo cameras need a steady power supply to work. If you notice your camera isn’t working at night because the night vision refuses to come up, you may need to check for power issues. Perhaps the camera is not receiving power from the power outlet.
So, first, check to be sure the power plugs are working fine. Next, check if the outlet is also working well. Try to plug another device into the spot to confirm if it’s working or not.
If the outlet is not working, then you should think of a way to fix it. You can also consider switching the camera to another power outlet until you are able to fix the one that’s not working.
If it’s not a power issue that is causing the problem, then it might be an issue with the IR. continue to the next step for details.
Check the IR LED
The Infrared (IR) LED on your Zmodo camera helps the device to view and produce images in the dark. This also activates the camera’s night vision.
Your Zmodo camera comes with a series of IR LEDs located around the lens, making night vision possible.
When the IR LEDs on the camera are bad, your night vision will also not come up. So, cup your hand over the front of the lens to confirm if the IR LEDs will activate and come up. If they don’t, then they may be bad.
To fix that, you may need to buy a few IR emitters. You will mount them on the camera to add extra illumination to support the camera’s night vision at night.
Check that Night Vision is Enabled
While your Zmodo camera should automatically switch to night mode when it’s getting dark, you may need to do that manually sometimes.
This is common with outdoor Zmodo cameras, as the element might have had a toll on the IR bulbs. Hence causing a delay in night vision activation or, sometimes, refusing to come up.
So check whether the camera automatically switches to night mode at night. If not, enable night vision manually on the device or the app—depending on your specific type of camera. You can consult the user’s manual to see how to do this.
Make Sure the Camera is Not Detecting Lights in the Area
Night mode only comes up when the camera can’t detect bright lights in the environment. When there is light, it automatically switches off the night mode.
So if your Zmodo camera night vision is not working properly, you might need to consider how much illumination is in the area at night.
To fix this, remove bright lights from the area, and ensure no bulb is directly pointing at the camera’s lens.
Update the Camera’s Firmware
The issue may also be caused by some glitches in firmware. Updating the firmware can help correct this at once. So, if you have tried all the fixes mentioned above and none seems to be working, check if there’s a new firmware update and update it.
Here is how to check and update your Zmodo camera’s firmware:
- Launch the Zmodo app on your phone and sign in—if you’re not already signed in.
- Select the camera from the list of devices. Then tap the Settings icon (the gear icon) on the top right-hand corner. This will reveal the settings menu.
- Now tap the three dots on the top right-hand corner. This will expand the menu.
- If there’s a new firmware update for your camera, you’ll see it on this page. Follow the instructions there to update the firmware.
Check on Zmodo’s app on your mobile phone for available updates and install it. If there is any, follow the instructions provided on the app to install the update.
That should fix any bug causing your night vision not to work properly. However, if this doesn’t help, try resetting the camera. Then set it up again afresh.
You can reset your Zmodo camera by pressing and holding the reset button for about 10-15 seconds. Once the reset is complete, you’ll see a green blinking light, indicating the device is ready for setup.
You camera’s night vision should work fine after resetting the device and setting it up again.
