Troubleshooting Eufy Smart Lock Locking/Unlocking Issues

If you’re having trouble locking/unlocking your Eufy smart lock from outside, here are some troubleshooting tips to help you resolve the issue:

Recharge or Replace the Batteries

If your lock doesn’t have enough power, its performance may reduce—and this could be the reason you’re not able to lock/unlock it.

If you’re using Eufy smart lock T8500, T8501, or T8510, these models use 4 AA batteries. So, you’ll need to check the batteries and replace them. Make sure you insert new batteries correctly, observing the correct battery polarity marking (+/-).

And if you own the Eufy smart lock T8520, this model uses a rechargeable battery with a 10,000mAh—expected to last up to 12 months.

For this lock, you’ll need to charge the battery instead of an outright replacement. Remove the battery from the lock and charge it using a micro USB and 5V/2A charger. It takes approximately 6-7 hours to recharge the battery to full capacity.

However, if you’ve used the lock for a little over 10 months, you may consider replacing the battery.

Make sure your lock has enough power, whether it means recharging or replacing the battery.

Next, try to lock/unlock your door from outside to see if it works. If not, continue to the next step.

Reboot Your Lock

If you’ve ensured that the lock has enough power but the problem persists, try rebooting it. Sometimes, a quick reboot might be all you need to fix internal glitches obstructing the locking process.

You can reboot your Eufy smart lock by pressing and holding the reboot button for about 10 seconds. The reboot button is located at the bottom of the lock, close to the micro USB port.

Allow the lock to fully boot up before you try locking it again—using your passcode.

If it still doesn’t work, continue to the next step.

Check that the Lock has the Latest Firmware Version

You may experience some malfunctions with your Eufy smart door lock if it’s not running on the latest firmware version.

New firmware versions are released periodically to enhance the lock’s performance and fix some glitches. So, check and update the firmware version of your lock to see if it resolves the problem.

Here’s how to check and update your Eufy smart lock firmware version:

  • Open the Eufy Security app on your mobile device. Make sure the lock is connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Locate the Lock in the app and tap the device tab. Next, tap Settings (gear icon).
  • Select General, then About Device.
  • Now tap System Version. If your lock has a new firmware version, you’ll see it on the screen. Follow the instructions on the screen to update it.

Reinstall the Lock

If you’re still having trouble locking/unlocking your Eufy smart lock, incorrect installation could be the culprit.

One common cause of this issue is incorrect door handing. So, you’ll need to remove the lock from the door and reinstall it, ensuring the latch and other components are set to match the door swing—left or right.
