Moxee Hotspot Not Working: How to Fix

So a friend recommended the Moxee hotspot device to me recently.

I got the device and followed the guidelines for setting up the Moxee hotspot. However, I couldn’t get it to work. This made me request the Moxee customer support team for assistance with the setup. After several discussions with the team, I got my hotspot device working again.

Moxee Hotspot device

In this article, I have carefully explained the steps to follow to fix Moxee hotspot issues.

The most common way to troubleshoot hotspot issues in the Moxee device is to restart your device. Then change your location to get a better network signal.

For a step-by-step guide on how to go about this, read on.

Restart Your Hotspot Device

If you can’t activate your Moxee hotspot device, the device might be malfunctioning.

You can resolve this problem by rebooting the device.

But first, you may try turning your phone’s Wi-Fi settings off and on to see if that would fix the issue. Then, connect your phone to your hotspot device again.

If the hotspot doesn’t work this time, reboot your Moxee device.

To reboot your Moxee Hotspot device, press the power button and wait 30 seconds. Then turn the device on again. Wait a few seconds more before reconnecting your phone (or computer) to the hotspot.

Is the hotspot working now? If not, try the next tip.

Move to Another Location

Your Moxee hotspot may not work because the network signal in your location is poor. As such, you’ll need to move to a new location in your area to find a better network signal.

Sometimes, the network signal in your location may be weak because of some signal blockers in your area. Such signal blockers include microwaves and baby monitors.

Move your phone and hotspot device away from the signal blockers. Then, try connecting your phone to the hotspot again.

If the Moxee hotspot fails to connect your phone to the internet, proceed to the next tip.

Turn Off Battery Saver Mode on the Hotspot Device

Setting your Moxee hotpot device to battery-saver mode can limit its range and efficiency. This might be why the device isn’t working.

If you’ve turned on battery-saver mode on your hotspot device, you’ll need to switch it off.

Once you’ve turned off the battery-saver mode, your Moxee hotspot should be back to normal.

Avoid turning on battery-saver mode when using your hotspot device. Instead, just charge the device when the battery is low.

Manually Configure APN Settings on the Device

If the APN (Access Point Name) settings on your Moxee hotspot device are incorrect, it won’t connect to mobile data. As such, the device won’t work.

When you insert a new SIM card into your hotspot device, it often updates the APN settings automatically. But if a network error occurs while you are inserting the SIM, the device may fail to update its APN settings.

In that case, you’ll need to configure the APN settings on your Moxee hotspot manually.

Here’s how to do that:

  • Turn on cellular data and hotspot on your phone.
  • Then connect your Moxee hotspot device to your phone’s hotspot.
  • Open a web browser and input https://192.168.1.1 to visit the hotspot device’s webpage.
  • Enter admin in the Username box and 12$*** into the Password box, where *** are the last three digits of your Moxee device’s IMEI code.
  • Locate the Settings option on the webpage.
  • Select Internet.
  • Then tap on Mobile Connection on your account page.
  • You will see the APN profile now. The name that appears on the APN profile should be the name of the current carrier.
  • Choose the authentication type you prefer.
  • A list of instructions will appear on the screen. Follow these instructions to finish configuring your APN settings on the Moxee hotspot device.

Your Moxee device should be working now. But if it isn’t, continue to the next step.

Disconnect Some Devices from the Hotspot

The Moxee hotspot device can only connect to ten devices at once. So, if you try to connect more than ten devices to the hotspot, it will become overloaded. As a result, the hotspot device might stop working.

Check the total number of devices that are linked to your phone. If you have connected more than ten devices to the hotspot, disconnect some of them.

Your Moxee hotspot should be back to normal after you’ve disconnected some devices from it. However, if the hotspot device is still malfunctioning, move on to the next step.

Top Up Your Data Bandwidth

If your Moxee hotspot device isn’t working, chances are you’ve exhausted the bandwidth on your data plan. As such, you might need to top up the bandwidth.

But first, you should check your data balance to confirm that you’ve actually used up all your data.

You can find your data balance on the home screen of your hotspot device.

Update Your Device’s Firmware

Like your smartphone, the Moxee hotspot device may not work properly if it is running on outdated firmware.

Your Moxee hotspot’s firmware contains features that improve the device’s performance. But if the firmware is outdated, it may contain glitches that might negatively affect the efficiency of this device.

You’ll need to update your device’s firmware to resolve this problem.

The Moxee app checks for firmware updates and notifies you.

Look through your Moxee app’s homepage for a firmware update notification. If you find the message, click on it. Then follow the instructions on the screen to install the firmware update.

After installing the firmware update, try connecting your device to your Moxee hotspot. If your device can’t access the internet, continue to the next step.

Wrapping Up

Most people resolve the Moxee hotspot problem by rebooting the device. You can try other solutions in the post if that doesn’t work.
