Schlage Encode Plus Unreachable [Quick Ways to Fix]

Not sure why the app shows your Schlage Encode Plus Deadbolt is not reachable? In this post, I’ll explain the reasons behind this and what you can do to fix the problem. Let’s get started.

Schlage Encode Plus

If your Schlage Encode Plus is unreachable in the Schlage Home app, here are some reasons behind this:

  • The batteries in your Schlage Encode Plus Deadbolt are low.
  • Your Wi-Fi connection is faulty.
  • Your Schlage Home app might be outdated.
  • Your lock is malfunctioning.

That said, let’s look at how to troubleshoot these issues.

Tips to Troubleshoot Schlage Encode Plus Wi-Fi Connection Problems

Replace the Battery

Low battery power can affect the performance of your lock. And this could be the reason the app isn’t able to reach the lock. So, if your Schlage Encode Plus displays unreachable in the app, one fix to try is replacing the batteries.

Note that all Schlage electronic/smart locks use non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Get a new pair of alkaline batteries and replace the old ones—observing polarity markings.

Next, return to the app and check if the lock now shows online. If not, continue to the next step.

Check Your Wi-Fi Connection

If your Schlage Encode Plus is unreachable, another reason for this issue is an unstable network. To fix network issues, begin with your router—unplug it from the power source and plug it back in. This will reboot the router and refresh the connection.

More so, check whether the router is positioned too far from the lock and try bringing it closer. This will ensure the lock receives strong Wi-Fi signals for a stable connection.

If rebooting the router and bringing it closer to the lock doesn’t help, check that your router is operating on the 2.4GHz network band. The Schlage Encode Plus Wi-Fi Deadbolt only supports the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, so if your router is operating on the 5GHz band, you may experience connectivity issues.

Check your router and ensure it’s set to run on the 2.4GHz network only. Also, disable dual-band so the router won’t switch bands automatically. Switching the Wi-Fi band on your router depends on the brand you’re using, so if you’re not sure how to do that, refer to your router’s user manual for guidelines.

Update the App

If you’re using the Schlage Home app or any other third-party app with your Schlage Encode Plus, check whether there are new updates and update your app.

Using an outdated version of the app may cause some malfunctions, so check and ensure your app is up-to-date.

More so, outdated firmware versions can cause some malfunctions. Check and ensure your Schlage Encode Plus is running the latest firmware. You can do this through the Schlage Home app.

Reset the Lock

If you have tried all the fixes above without success, chances are the lock itself is malfunctioning. You can fix internal malfunctions in your Schlage Encode Plus by performing a factory reset on the lock.

But before you reset your Schlage Encode, keep in mind that this action will erase all your custom programming. What this means is, you’ll have to start all over again to program the lock.

That said, here’s how to reset your Schlage Encode Lock Plus:

  • Go to the interior assembly of the lock and remove the battery cover.
  • Press and hold the Reset button. The Reset button is a black circle button.
  • Next, the status LED on the lock will blink red. Continue holding the Reset button until the LED light stops blinking red.
  • Now wait for about 10 seconds—for the LED to light solid blue. Once the light turns solid blue, it means the lock is reset.

So that’s it—the lock is reset, and it should work fine now.

Note that you’ll need to reprogram the lock and add new User Codes. See how to manually add or change codes in your Schlage Encode Plus.

Closing Thoughts

So that’s how to troubleshoot your Schlage Encode Plus—if it’s unreachable/unresponsive in the app.

To recap, if your Schlage Encode Plus is unreachable or not responding, first replace the batteries. Next, reboot your router and ensure the router is operating on the 2.4GHz network. If that doesn’t help, update the app and reset the lock.
