Tenda Wi-Fi Extender Setup Guide

Did you just get a Tenda Wi-Fi range extender and are looking for how to set it up? Then you’re in the right place.

Tenda Wi-Fi Extender

In this post, I’ve explained the steps to take to set up your Tenda Wi-Fi Extender in minutes. Let’s get started.

Tenda Wi-Fi Extender Setup Instructions

Like many Wi-Fi repeaters on the market, there are basically two methods to set up your Tenda Wi-Fi range extender, too.  You can either configure it using the WPS button or via web UI.

Both methods work perfectly, but the type of router you use will determine which method will work best for you. Let’s take a quick look at how to set up your Tenda Wi-Fi extender using the two methods.

Method 1: Setting Up Your Tenda Wi-Fi Extender using the WPS Button

You can only use this method to extend your Wi-Fi network if your router also has a WPS button.

Check your router to confirm this by looking out for a button with a WPS icon on it.

If your router has a WPS button, then you can proceed with this method. Otherwise, you will have to use the Web UI method that will be discussed later in this post.

1. Power on the Device

Plug the repeater into a power outlet within 2 meters from your router. It will be great if the two devices can be in the same room. Then wait for the PWR LED indicator to turn solid blue.

2. Extend your Wi-Fi Network

Press the WPS button on your router, and then press the WPS button on the repeater within 2 minutes to connect the two devices.

3. Wait for the Signal LED Indicator to Turn On

Once the two devices have connected, your Wi-Fi network will be successfully extended. You will know this when the Signal LED indicator turns on. However, if the indicator did not turn on after doing step 2 above, you should use the second method.

4. Relocate the Extender and Connect your Wi-Fi Devices

Once the Signal LED turns on, indicating a successful extension of your network, plug the repeater into an outlet halfway between the router and the Wi-Fi dead zone.

However, make sure the new location you are choosing for the extender is within the range of your existing Wi-Fi network.

5. Double-check the Signal Strength

Check the Signal LED indicator to be sure the new location is the best place for your extender. If the indicator turns blue, it means your extender is in a proper position. If red or off, move the extender closer to the router.

6. Connect your Wi-Fi-enabled Devices

Now, you can connect your devices to the Wi-Fi network of your Tenda Wi-Fi range extender to access the internet with the following information:

  • SSID of the extended network: use your existing network with the suffix _EXT or _5GEXT.
  • Wi-Fi password of the extended network: this is the same as the password of the existing router.

Method 2: Setting Up Your Tenda Wi-Fi Extender via Web UI

This method is more recommended for setting up the Tenda Wi-Fi range extender because it works—whether your router has a WPS button or not. Even with your mobile phone, this is the Tenda Wi-Fi range extender setup instruction to follow:

1. Power on the extender

Plug your extender into a power outlet within 2 meters from your router. It is recommended you have your router and the extender in the same room. Then wait for the PWR LED indicator to turn solid blue.

2. Connect your Mobile Phone

Connect your mobile device to the extender’s Wi-Fi network. Make sure your mobile device Wi-Fi is on, the search for available wireless network to find the extender’s network named Tenda EXT. Tap the network to connect to it.

3. Open the Management Page and Set Your Credentials

After connecting to the extender’s SSID, a quick setup page will pop up (if you are connecting to the device for the first time). You can as well open your browser (Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are recommended) and enter re.tenda.cn in the address bar to access the management page.

4. Create a Login Password

For security reasons, it is recommended that you create a log-in password and then tap Next.

5. Select the Network to Extend

Next thing is to select the network you want to extend. Then enter the password of the network you want to extend, and tap Extend. If you like, you can change the SSID or leave it unmodified.

6. Wait for the Signal LED Indicator to Turn On

Wait a few seconds for the Signal LED indicators to turn red or blue. Then, relocate the extender following the on-screen tips for optimal connection quality.

7. Connect your Wi-Fi-enabled Devices

Now, you can connect your devices to the Wi-Fi network of your Tenda Wi-Fi range extender to access the internet with the following information:

  • SSID of the extended network: use your existing network with the suffix _EXT or _5GEXT.
  • Wi-Fi password of the extended network: this is the same as the password of the existing router
