Eightree smart plug

If your Eightree smart plug is not connecting, you can quickly fix the plug by rebooting it. Another solution to try is to reduce the distance between your router and the smart plug.

If these fixes don’t work for your smart plug, read on to find other methods.

How to Fix Eightree Smart Plug Wi-Fi Connection Issues

Power Cycle Your Smart Plug

Your Eightree smart plug might fail to connect to the Smart Life app because it has encountered a functional error. All electronic devices experience errors occasionally, and the smart plug is no different.

Luckily, you only need to power cycle your smart plug for the error to disappear.

Here’s how to reboot the plug:

  • Unplug the smart plug from your power outlet.
  • Wait for 10 seconds.
  • Then, reconnect the smart plug to the outlet.

After rebooting your smart plug, try connecting the device to the Smart Life app again. If the plug fails to pair with the app, continue to the next tip.

Connect the Smart Plug to a New Outlet

If your smart plug is connected to an old power outlet, it could be the reason why the device isn’t connecting.

As your power outlet ages, the power supply from the outlet might become unstable. Your Eightree Smart Plug can’t maintain a connection to your phone on a fluctuating power supply.

The solution to this problem is to connect your smart plug to a newer, more functional outlet. Your smart plug should successfully pair with your phone once it starts receiving a stable power supply.

However, if the connection still fails, try the next tip.

Make Sure Your Smart Plug is in Pairing Mode

Your Eightree Smart Plug might refuse to connect because the plug isn’t in pairing mode. Your smart plug needs to be in pairing mode for your mobile device to locate it.

You can tell that your smart plug is in pairing mode if the light on the plug blinks rapidly. If you don’t find this sign on your smart plug, you’ll need to set the device in pairing mode.

The steps below will help you do that:

  • Restart the setup process and follow through until you enter your Wi-Fi login details.
  • Tap Next.
  • Make sure your smart plug is powered on.
  • Click on Next.
  • Locate the power button on the right side of your plug.
  • Press and hold the power button for five seconds.
  • A light should appear on the smart plug and blink rapidly.
  • Your smart plug is now in pairing mode.

After activating pairing mode on your smart plug, wait for the device to connect to the app. If it doesn’t, try the next tip.

Disable VPN on Your Phone

Another factor that can prevent your smart plug from connecting is a VPN. A VPN can hide your phone’s IP address from other smart devices.

If your smart plug can’t find your phone’s IP address, it won’t be able to pair with the Smart Life app on the device.

If you have a VPN app on your phone, launch the app and disconnect the active VPN. You could also uninstall the VPN app to avoid connection issues in the future.

Once you’ve turned off your VPN, try pairing your smart plug with the Smart Life app. If the plug doesn’t connect, move on to the next step.

Confirm that Your Wi-Fi Password is Correct

Did you confirm your Wi-Fi password before entering it into the app? If not, your Wi-Fi password might be incorrect.

The Eightree smart plug relies on a stable Wi-Fi connection to pair with the app. So, if your Wi-Fi password is incorrect, your Eightree smart plug won’t connect.

Open the saved Wi-Fi setting on your phone and check your Wi-Fi password. Then, restart the plug setup and enter your Wi-Fi password. Your smart plug should connect successfully after this.

If you’ve confirmed that your Wi-Fi password is correct, yet the smart plug keeps refusing to connect, try the next tip.

Reboot Your Router

If you haven’t been able to connect your smart plug to your phone by now, there is a high chance the connection problem is from your router. So, you should focus on troubleshooting your router to resolve the issue.

One of the fastest ways to troubleshoot your router is to reboot the device.

To reboot your router, disconnect it from your power outlet and wait for 10 seconds. Then, plug the router back into the power outlet.

Now, connect your Eightree smart plug to the Smart Life app on your phone. If the connection fails, proceed to the next step.

Move Your Smart Plug Closer to Your Router

Sometimes, the Eightree Smart Plug fails to connect because your Wi-Fi signal is weak. This usually occurs when the router is too far away from the smart plug.

Wi-Fi signals can only travel about 30 feet from the router before they break off. So, if your smart plug is a long distance away from your router, the Wi-Fi signal won’t reach the device.

Check if your smart plug is more than 30 feet away from your router. If it is, move the router closer to the plug.

Make Sure You’re Connected to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Network

If your Eightree Smart Plug isn’t connecting, chances are you are using a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. The Eightree smart plug is not compatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi networks.

You need to check if your Wi-Fi network is on a 2.4GHz or 5ghz band. The easiest way to do this is to look for the numbers 2 or 5 in the SSID (original network name). If you see a 5 in the SSID, the network is most likely on the 5GHz band. However, if you see a 2, you are probably using a 2.4GHz network.

Disconnect from your 5GHz Wi-Fi network and connect to a 2.4GHz network on your Wi-Fi network list. This should make your Eightree Smart Plug connect to your Smart Life app.

Disconnect Some Devices from Your Wi-Fi Network

There is a limit to the number of devices your router can accommodate at once. The average router can only connect to 10 devices at once.

If there are ten devices or more paired with your Wi-Fi network, they might be preventing your Eightree Smart Plug from connecting. Determine which devices you don’t really need and disconnect them from your Wi-Fi network.

If you try connecting your smart plug after unpairing some devices from your Wi-Fi, the connection should be successful.
