GHome Smart Plug Not Connecting [How to Fix]
Are you having trouble connecting your GHome Smart Plug to the app? Then, you might be wondering what the problem is. In this article, we’ll reveal why your smart plug isn’t connecting and how to fix the issue.
But first, try fixing the connection problem by power cycling your smart plug. Then, insert the smart plug into another outlet.
If both tips don’t work, move on to the main piece to find other solutions.
How to Fix GHome Smart Plug Wi-Fi Connection Problems
Turn on Your Smart Plug
If you haven’t turned on your smart plug, the device won’t connect to your phone. Your GHome needs power to pair with your phone.
To turn on your smart plug, remove the device from its packing case and plug it into an outlet. Then, press the power button on the right side of the plug. When the plug is turned on, a light will appear in the middle of the plug.
Then, try connecting the smart plug again. If the plug doesn’t connect, try the next tip.
Power Cycle Your Smart Plug
Like all electronic devices, the GHome smart plug encounters functional errors occasionally. These errors can prevent the plug from performing basic actions like controlling a device or connecting to an app.
You can fix these errors by power cycling your smart plug.
Here’s how to do that:
- Remove the smart plug from your power outlet.
- Wait for ten seconds.
- Then, reconnect the plug to your power outlet.
Your smart plug should connect now. However, if the plug still fails to pair with your phone, continue to the next tip.
Connect Your Smart Plug to Another Power Outlet
Another culprit behind connection issues in the GHome Smart Plug is a bad power outlet.
Although your power outlet looks fine from the outside, the outlet might be undergoing internal problems. For instance, one of the wires linking the outlet to your power circuit may be broken.
If your power outlet is faulty, the power it supplies to the smart plug will be unstable. Without a stable power supply, your smart plug won’t be able to connect successfully to your phone.
First, check if your current outlet is still working properly. You can do this by charging your phone at the outlet.
If the phone charges at an unusually slow rate, your power outlet is problematic. As such, you’ll need to connect the Smart plug to a new outlet.
If your GHome Smart Plug doesn’t connect after this, proceed to the next step.
Use the Correct App
There are several GHome apps on the Google Play Store and App Store. Unfortunately, none of these apps are authorized to manage the GHome Smart Plug. So, if you try to pair the plug with the GHome apps, the connection will most likely fail.
The only acceptable app for managing the GHome smart plug is the Smart Life app.
If you’re trying to connect your GHome Smart Plug to a different app apart from the Smart Life app, uninstall the app from your phone. Then, download the Smart Life app to your phone and restart the setup for your smart plug.
The smart plug should connect now. However, if the device still fails to connect, move on to the next tip.
Confirm that Your Wi-Fi Password is Correct
If you haven’t been able to connect to your Ghome Smart Plug by now, chances are you entered the wrong Wi-Fi password. Perhaps you wrote an upper-case letter as lower-case, or you skipped a number.
Check your Wi-Fi settings and note the password. Then, enter the correct password in your Smart Life app and try connecting the smart plug to the app.
Was the connection successful? If not, continue to the next tip.
Reboot Your Router
If your GHome Smart Plug keeps failing to connect, it may point to a malfunction in your router. This occurs occasionally, especially when your router is several years old.
You can eliminate this malfunction by rebooting your router. To reboot your router, unplug the device from your power outlet and wait for 10 seconds. Then, plug the router back into the outlet.
Your GHome Smart Plug should connect to the app now.
Move Your Router Closer to the Smart Plug
Your GHome Smart Plug may fail to connect because your Wi-Fi signal is weak. Wi-Fi signals weaken because the router is too far away from the device you’re trying to connect to the internet, which, in this case, is your smart plug.
To solve this problem, you’ll need to move your router closer to your smart plug. Your router must be within 30 feet of the smart plug to improve the Wi-Fi signal.
When your router is close enough to your smart plug, restart the connection process. If the connection doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.
Disconnect Some Devices From Your Wi-Fi Network
Your Wi-Fi network can only accommodate ten devices at maximum capacity. If you’re trying to connect your smart plug when the network has reached its limit, the connection will fail.
You need to consider the number of devices currently linked to your Wi-Fi network. If these devices are about 9 or 10, you’ll have to disconnect a few of them to make space for your GHome Smart Plug.
After removing some devices from your Wi-Fi network, try connecting your GHome Smart Plug to the app. If the smart plug refuses to connect, check out the next tip.
Change Your Wi-Fi Band
Using a 5GHz Wi-Fi network can prevent your smart plug from connecting. This is because the GHome Smart Plug is incompatible with 5GHz Wi-Fi networks. The smart plug only works perfectly with 2.4GHz networks.
Check if you’re using a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. You can do this by studying the SSID (original name) of your Wi-Fi network. If the SSID contains ‘5’, it is most likely a 5GHz network.
Disconnect your phone from your 5GHz network and pair the device with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. Most 2.4GHz networks have the number ‘2’ in their SSID.
Once you’re connected to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, try pairing your GHome Smart Plug with your phone. If the connection fails, move on to the next step.
Factory Reset Your Smart Plug
If none of the tips above fixes the connection problem in your GHome Smart Plug, the device probably has a fatal issue.
There is only one quick fix for a fatal issue: A factory reset. Factory resetting your smart plug clears out the data on the device, giving it a fresh slate.
Take the following steps to factory reset your GHome Smart Plug:
- Keep your smart plug connected to a power outlet.
- Press and hold the power button on the smart plug until a light starts blinking on the device.
- The factory reset is complete.
Your GHome Smart Plug should connect to your Smart Life app after the reset.
