Performing the Door Handing Identification

If you’ve just installed your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Deadbolt (first-time installation), the first thing you want to do is perform the door handing identification. This will teach the lock the orientation of the door—whether it’s a right-handed or left-handed door.

More so, you need to perform the door handing identification whenever you reset the lock. Note that the lock may malfunction if it doesn’t recognize the orientation of your door.

Here’s how to perform the door handing identification on your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt:

  • On the keypad, enter the default Programming Code (0000) and press the GATEHOUSE button (the button that has “GATEHOUSE” written on it).
  • Press key 0 on the keypad and then press the GATEHOUSE button to complete the process.

Changing the Programming Code on a Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt

As with most Electronic Deadbolts, your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt has a Programming Code that allows you to make programming changes in the lock—such as adding and deleting User Codes.

What this means is, you need to enter the Programming Code to make any programming changes in the lock. And you can change the code as many times as you want.

Note that the lock comes with a default Programming Code (0000), and you need to change this code to ensure that no one else can change your lock programming unauthorized.

With that being said, here’s how to change the existing Programming Code on your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt:

  1. Enter the existing Programming Code (the one you want to change) and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press key 4 on the keypad and then press the GATEHOUSE button.
  3. Enter a new Programming Code (4 digits) and press the GATEHOUSE button.

If the operation is successful, the indicator light will flash green twice, followed by two long beeps.

But if the lock flashes red three times and beeps three times, it means the operation wasn’t successful. Start the process again and ensure you follow the steps correctly.

Adding New User Codes

As you probably know, a User Code for this lock is a 4 to 10-digit number that allows you to unlock the lock through the keypad. That is, you can unlock your door by entering a User Code via the lock’s keypad.

You can create and save up to 6 User Codes—and share them with anyone you want to allow access to your home while you’re away.

With that being said, here’s how to add a User Code on your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt:

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press key 1 on the keypad and then press the GATEHOUSE button.
  3. Enter a new User Code (4 to 10 digits) and press the GATEHOUSE button.

And that’s all you need to do to add a new User Code. Repeat the steps to add more User Codes. Note that you can only add up to 6 User Codes.

Deleting Existing User Codes

You can delete a single existing User Code or delete all User Codes at once. Let’s begin with how to delete a single User Code:

  1. Enter the Programming Code and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press key 2 and then press the GATEHOUSE button.
  3. Enter the User Code you want to delete and press the GATEHOUSE button. This will delete the User Code.

Note: Your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder-Electronic Deadbolt comes with a default User Code (1234). It’s recommended that you delete this code for security reasons. Follow the steps above to delete the default User Code.

Deleting All Existing User Codes

As mentioned earlier, you can also delete all existing User Codes on your Gatehouse Lock at once. However, note that you can’t lock/unlock the lock via the keypad when all User Codes are deleted—so you have to program new codes after deleting all User Codes.

That said, if you’ve decided to delete all the existing User Codes on your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Deadbolt, follow the steps below:

  1. Enter your current Programming Code and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press key 3 and then press the GATEHOUSE button to complete the operation.

The indicator light will blink green twice, followed by two beeps, showing that the operation is successful.

Enabling/Disabling Auto-Lock

Your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt comes with an auto-locking function. This feature automatically locks the lock after a few seconds when the door closes—and is left unlocked.

To get this feature to work, you’ll need to enable it. And here’s how to do that:

  1. Enter the Programming Code and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press key 5 and then press the GATEHOUSE button. This will enable auto-lock on your lock.

To disable auto-lock, repeat the above steps.

Note: Your lock will lock automatically after 30 seconds—when the door closes—and this is the default delay time. If you wish to set a different delay time, follow the steps below:

  1. Enter your Programming Code and press the GATEHOUSE button.
  2. Press 6 and then press the GATEHOUSE button.
  3. Enter delay time (10-99 seconds) and press the GATEHOUSE button.

Now your lock will auto-lock based on your programmed delay time.

Performing a Factory Reset

You want to reset your lock if you’ve lost/forgotten the codes or are having some issues with the lock.

However, note that performing a factory reset will erase all other custom programming in the lock.

If you’re ready to perform a factory reset on your Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the battery cover to locate the Reset button (a round button labeled “R”). See the image above.
  2. Press and hold the Reset button (for about 5 seconds) until you hear three long beeps.
  3. The three long beeps show that the lock is reset. So you can now perform the door handing identification and then use the default Programming Code to program other functions in the lock.

Note: Ensure you perform the door handing identification after resetting the lock. This is the first thing to do before programming any other function.

Related Questions and Troubleshooting Tips

Gatehouse Electronic Deadbolt won’t lock; what to do?

If this happens after installing the lock or performing a reset, chances are you didn’t perform the door handing identification. Perhaps you did, but not properly done.

Run the door handing identification again to see if it solves the problem. See how to do this above.

Gatehouse Electronic Deadbolt not working; what to do?

If your Gatehouse Electronic Deadbolt isn’t working properly, the first thing to do is check the batteries. Maybe the battery polarities have been reversed or the batteries are low/dead.

To fix this, remove the batteries and reinstall them properly. If that doesn’t help, change the batteries—always use a fresh set of alkaline batteries and do not mix new batteries with old ones.

Also, check that the cable is properly connected. If the issue persists, try performing a factory reset.

And if everything fails, contact the manufacturer (Lowes) for help.

Gatehouse Single-Cylinder Electronic Deadbolt won’t unlock; what do I do?

This might be happening because the batteries are low, as low batteries can affect the performance of the lock.

Check and replace the batteries to see if that resolves the problem. If not, unlock the door with a physical key, then reset the lock and reprogram it. This should fix the unlocking issue.
