GE Smart Switch Not Connecting to Wi-Fi [How to Fix]

Are you wondering why you can’t get your GE Smart Switch to connect to Wi-Fi? If so, keep reading to see why this happens and how to resolve it.

GE Smart Switch

If your GE Smart Switch won’t connect to Wi-Fi, your Wi-Fi might be the culprit. Outdated firmware and not enabling Bluetooth on your phone during setup could also be the reason behind this problem.

That said, keep reading to see what you can do to get your GE Smart Switch to connect to Wi-Fi.

How to Fix GE Smart Switch Wi-Fi Connection Issues

Here are some tips to help you resolve this issue:

Check that the Smart Switch is in Pairing Mode

Your GE Smart Switch needs to be in pairing mode to connect to the Cync app/Wi-Fi. If the switch won’t connect to Wi-Fi, check if it’s in pairing mode.

Pairing mode is indicated by a blue blinking light on the switch. If you don’t see a blue blinking light, the device is not in pairing mode.

To put the switch in pairing mode, press and hold the ON/OFF button on the switch (for about 10 seconds) until the indicator starts blinking blue.

Next, continue with the setup again. If it fails, continue to the next step.

Check that Bluetooth is Enabled on Your Phone

For some reason, the GE smart switch and Cync app require your phone’s Bluetooth to be enabled for the pairing to work.

If you’re still having difficulties getting the switch to connect to Wi-Fi, check and turn on Bluetooth on your phone (where the Cync app is installed).

If the problem persists after this, continue to the next step.

Plug Your Smart Switch into an Outlet Near Your Router

If your GE Smart Switch isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi, its Wi-Fi signal might be weak. Usually, this happens because the smart switch is too far from your router.

To fix this issue, you’ll need to bring your router closer to the switch during setup or get a Wi-Fi extender to boost your Wi-Fi signal strength.

If this checks out and you’re still unable to get the switch to connect to Wi-Fi, continue to the next step.

Change Your Wi-Fi Band

Your GE Smart Switch only connects to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. So, if the switch isn’t connecting to Wi-Fi, your router might be broadcasting on a 5GHz network.

Go to your router’s admin page and ensure the router is broadcasting on the 2.4GHz band. If you’re not sure how to switch Wi-Fi bands on your router, refer to your router’s user manual.

If your Wi-Fi is now operating on the 2.4GHz band, yet the switch won’t connect, continue to the next step.

Update the App and Your Smart Switch Firmware

Your GE Smart Switch may also fail to connect to Wi-Fi if the Cync app on your phone is outdated. Check and ensure your app is up to date. You can update the app through Google Play Store or App Store (depending on the phone you’re using).

More so, ensure your GE Smart Switch is running the latest firmware version. You can check and update your GE Smart Switch firmware through the Cync app on your phone.

If you’re still unable to connect the switch to Wi-Fi, check the next step.

Factory Reset Your Smart Switch

If your GE Smart Switch doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi after you’ve tried the steps above, factory reset the device. This usually helps to fix incorrect settings/unseen glitches obstructing the connection.

Here’s how to factory reset your GE Smart Switch:

  • For wired switches, press and hold the power on the switch until the LED light turns red. Once the indicator light blinks blue, the reset is complete.
  • For the GE wireless switch, press and hold the side pinhole until the LED indicator light turns red.

Now your GE Smart Switch is reset. Start the setup process again—it should connect to Wi-Fi now.
