In this post, I’ll explain some reasons behind this issue and what you can do to get the problem solved.
First off, if your Swann camera is not recording, check that the feature is enabled in the app. The motion detection feature has to be enabled for your camera to record. So, go to the app on your phone and enable the motion detection feature. This should resolve the problem.
But if this does not help, keep reading for more troubleshooting tips.
How to Fix Swann Camera Recording Issues
Enable Motion Detection
This is the first place to check if your Swann camera is not recording. For the camera to be able to detect movement in the monitored area and record video clips, the motion detection feature has to be enabled.
While this automatically switches on in some cameras, you may need to enable it manually in some. So, if your camera is not recording, chances are the motion detection feature needs to be enabled manually.
So, open the app on your phone and find the recording feature. If it’s not in the ‘on’ position, turn it on.
Once the feature is enabled, check if the issue has been resolved.
If your camera still doesn’t record even after enabling motion detection, proceed to the next tips.
Check for Power Issues
Your camera needs sufficient power supply to work and also record motion. If you notice your camera isn’t recording, chances are that it is not receiving enough power supply.
So, if your Swann camera is hard-wired—like most of them, check if your camera is plugged into a power outlet. Also, check the power cable and be sure it’s working well.
On the other hand, if your camera is battery-powered, you may need to charge or replace the batteries, depending on the battery type.
Check if there is Enough Space for Recording
If there is no space in your camera’s internal hard disk to store new videos, your camera might not record. So, delete some videos from the storage and check if the camera can record.
If your camera records after deleting some videos, then consider storing old videos in an external device to free up more space for new recordings.
Another way to deal with this is to set your system to overwrite previously recorded videos. That means even when there is no space for new videos, your camera can record new ones to overwrite the old ones.
Open the System Set menu and select the Time/Date option. Confirm that the time and date are set correctly. Under the Record Set menu, set Overwrite to ‘Yes.’
Check Internet Connection
This is another thing that can cause you to experience problems with your camera recordings. If the internet connection is not stable, it will affect the video upload. The file may not be successfully uploaded because of a drop in internet connection.
So, try to improve your connection by connecting to a stronger Wi-Fi signal and removing every barrier, such as walls, between your camera and your router.
Reboot the Device
A quick power cycle could help fix the problem if it was caused by some sort of bug. So, reboot your camera by unplugging it from the power source and wait for about 20 seconds before plugging it back in.
If your camera is battery-powered, remove the batteries and wait 5 seconds before putting them back in. Now, restart your camera and check if it can now record.
Reposition the Camera
If there is an obstruction blocking your camera’s view when it’s supposed to be recording, you may not have any recorded videos at the end of the day.
Check the area around the camera and remove any potential obstructions. You might also consider moving the camera to another location where nothing is blocking the view.
Additionally, if your camera is placed behind a window glass panel, that will prevent the camera’s sensor from detecting movements in the area.
Reset the Camera
If none of the fixes mentioned above help, then you might want to reset the camera.
Resetting the device to factory default will help correct any malfunction you might be having with the camera. Just that you will need to set up the camera all over again as though you just bought it new.
To reset your Swann camera, first unplug the device from the power source to turn it off completely. Now locate the reset button on the camera—usually at the bottom. Then use a paper clip or pin to press and hold down the button.
While holding down the reset button, plug the camera back into a power source and continue holding down the button for 30 seconds, then release it.
