Yale Door Lock Manual (Programming Instructions)

In this post, I’m going to show you how to program your Yale Keypad deadbolt—YRD210 and YRD220.

If you’re also looking to get a PDF copy of the user manual, scroll to the bottom of this post.

That said, let’s get over to the programming instructions.

Creating a Master Code

If you have a new Yale Keypad Lock installed or you’ve performed a factory reset on your existing lock, the first thing you want to do is to create a Master Code.

The Master Code is a 4-8 digit code you’ll need to enter before you can make any programming changes in the lock.

That said, here’s how to create a Master Code:

  1. Press the # key on the keypad.
  2. Press 1 and press # key.
  3. Enter a 4-8 digits Master Code.
  4. Press the # key to complete the process.

So that’s it! You’ve successfully created a Master Code, so you can now go ahead with other programming.

Creating User Codes

A User Code or User Pin Code is a 4-8 digit code that allows you to unlock your door from the outside—using the keypad.

You can create up to 25 codes (without network module) on the lock itself. And with the network module, you can create up to 250 User Codes.

So, here’s how to create a User Code on a Yale Keypad Lock:

  1. Enter your Master Code and press the # key.
  2. Press 2 and press the # key.
  3. Press 1 and press the # key.
  4. Now, you need to assign the code you want to create to a User Number (1-25). If this is your first User Code, you can assign it to number 1. So, press 1, followed by the # key.
  5. Enter a 4-8 digit code and press the # key. Then press the * key to complete the process.

And that’s it. Your new User Code is set. You can repeat the steps to add more User Codes.

Unlocking the Door with a User Code

Now let me show you how to unlock your door from outside using the User Code you’ve just created.

To unlock your door:

  • Enter the User Code on via the keypad.
  • Press the * button.
  • If the code is correct, your door should be unlocked by now.

Deleting a User Code

If you want to remove any User Code from the lock, here are the steps to take:

  1. Enter your Master Pin Code. Then press the # key.
  2. Press 2, followed by the # key.
  3. Press 3, followed by the # key.
  4. Now enter the User Number of the code you want to delete and press the # key. Remember, each User Code created is assigned a User Number (1-25).
  5. Press the * key to complete the process.

The User Code is now removed. To confirm if the code is actually removed, lock your door and try to unlock it with the code. If it doesn’t unlock, the code is removed.

Enabling/Disabling Automatic Re-lock

The auto-lock or auto re-lock feature (when enabled) automatically locks your door after 30 seconds (by default) when the door is closed.

Here’s how to enable the auto re-lock function:

  1. Enter your Master Code and press the # key.
  2. Press 3, followed by the # key.
  3. Press 1 and then press the # key.
  4. Press 1 and press the # key again to enable auto-lock.

To disable auto-lock, repeat steps 1-3. Then press 3, followed by the # key.

Performing the Door Handing Detection

Door handing teaches the lock the orientation of your door—whether it’s a right hand or left-handed door. This process is crucial to the lock’s operation.

If you don’t perform the door handing, you may experience issues, such as the lock not unlocking or locking.

That said, here’s how to perform the door handing process:

  1. Enter your Master Code and press the # key.
  2. Press 3, followed by the # key.
  3. Press 5, followed by the # key.
  4. Now press the # key again to complete the process.

Resetting Your Yale Lock to Factory Default Settings

Performing a factory reset on the lock usually helps to troubleshoot some issues with the lock. So. if your lock is not working properly, performing a factory reset is recommended.

Also, you want to reset the lock if you’ve lost the Master Code.

Note that resetting the lock will remove all codes you’ve created, including the Master Code. You’ll need to program the lock afresh after a factory reset.

That said, here’s how to reset your Yale Keypad Lock:

  1. Keep your door open and unlocked.
  2. Go to the interior assembly of the lock and remove the battery cover
  3. Next, remove the batteries.
  4. Look for the Reset button (a black circle button) above the PCB cable connector.
  5. Press and hold the Reset button. While still holding the Reset button, put the batteries back in. Make you insert the batteries correctly.
  6. Now replace the battery cover.

The reset is complete. Next, you’ll need to create a Master Pin Code (see how to do this above) before you can do any other thing on the lock.
