How to Fix ‘C by GE Lights Not Connecting to Google Home’ Issue
Power Cycle Your C by GE Light Bulb
If your C by GE light bulb isn’t connecting to Google Home, start your troubleshooting by power cycling the light bulb. This should refresh the device and reconnect to Google Home.
To power cycle, your C by GE light, switch off the light bulb and wait 10 seconds. Then turn the light back on.
Your C by GE lights should connect to Google Home now. But if not, continue to the next step.
Check that You Entered the Correct Cync Login Details
Google Home needs access to your Cync account to connect to your C by GE light. So, when you are trying to connect your lights to the Google Home app, it will ask you to enter your Cync account login details. If you input the wrong information, the lights won’t connect to Google Home.
If your lights are not connecting to the Google Home app, check that you entered your correct Cync app login details in the app. You can do this by logging out of your Cync account. Then try logging in to your Cync account again, using the details you’ve provided in the Google Home app.
If you can’t log in to your Cync account with these details, then the details might be wrong. In that case, you’ll need to contact Cync Support to change your login details.
Once you’ve changed your login details, go back to the Google Home app. Then enter your Cync account details to link the account to Google Home.
Follow these steps to link your Cync account to Google Home:
- Install the Google Home app to your phone if you don’t already have it.
- Click on the plus (+) icon in the app.
- Next, select Set up a Device. Then tap Works with Google.
- Enter “C by GE” into the search bar.
- Then click on the C by GE skill when you find it.
- Input the correct Cync login details to finish linking your Cync account to Google Home.
- Google Home will now display your C by GE lights. Tap on the light and follow the instructions in the app to connect the device to Google Home.
If your C by GE lights don’t connect to Google Home after this, move on to the next step.
Check that You’ve Paired the Light(s) to the Cync App
After you’ve linked your Cync account to Google Home, Google Home will search for your C by GE lights in your Cync account. If Google Home doesn’t find the light, it won’t connect.
If your C by GE light isn’t connecting to Google Home, check if you’ve added the light to your Cync app. If you haven’t set up your C by GE light in your Cync account, you’ll need to do that to get it to connect to Google Home.
Take the following steps to set up your C by GE light in the Cync app:
- Open your Cync app.
- Click on the plus (+) icon at the top of the screen. The select your C by GE light.
- The app will display a list of Wi-Fi networks in your area. Tap on your Wi-Fi network.
- Then enter your Wi-Fi password to connect the lights to your Cync app.
- Follow the instructions in the app to finish the setup.
Now, go back to the Google Home app and try connecting your C by GE light to the app. If the light fails to connect to Google Home, continue to the next tip.
Enter Your New Wi-Fi Password in the Cync App
Your C by GE light connects to Google Home through the Cync app. This means that it uses the information already stored in your Cync account, including your Wi-Fi details.
If your C by GE lights are not connecting to Google Home, you may have changed the password for your Wi-Fi network. But since the Cync app probably still uses the old password, the light won’t connect.
To fix this issue, you’ll need to enter the new Wi-Fi password in the Cync app.
The following guide will show you how to change your Wi-Fi password in the Cync app:
- Open your Cync app.
- Click on Settings. You’ll find the Settings option at the top left corner of your home screen.
- Select Room and Devices.
- Click on the Room where your C by GE lights are located.
- Now, select View Devices.
- Search for the C by GE lights in the device list.
- When you see the C by GE lights, tap the Edit button under the device’s image.
- Now, select Wi-Fi. A list of Wi-Fi networks will appear. Tap on your Wi-Fi network.
- Then enter your new Wi-Fi password.
Your C by GE light should connect to Google Home after you’ve entered your new Wi-Fi password in the Cync app. But if the light fails to connect to Google Home, try the next tip.
Match Your Device Name in the Google Home and Cync Apps
You’ve already set up your C by GE lights in the Cync and Google Home apps. Now, you want to connect the lights to Google Home through the Cync app so you can control the device using voice commands.
If you have named your C by GE lights differently in the Google Home and Cync apps, the device won’t connect to Google Home. As such, you’ll need to match the names in both apps.
Here’s how to change your device name in Google Home:
- Open your Google Home app.
- Press and hold your C by GE lights on the home screen.
- Next, click on Settings at the top right corner of the app. Then select Device Information.
- Tap Device Name. Then enter the name you saved your lights with in the Cync app.
- Tap Save to save the new name.
If you want to change your device name in the Cync app, follow these steps:
- Open your Cync app.
- Tap Settings at the top left corner of the app.
- Click on Rooms and Devices.
- Select the Room where your C by GE lights are located.
- Then tap View Devices.
- Now click on your lights to change the device’s name.
After matching the name for your lights in the Google Home and Cync app, try connecting the device to Google Home again. If it fails to connect, continue to the next tip.
Check for Updates
Using outdated versions of the Cync app and Google Home app on your phone may also cause this problem. If you’ve tried all the fixes above without success, check whether your Cync app or Google Home app needs to be updated.
You can check for updates on Google Play Store or App Store (depending on the phone you’re using).
If there are new updates, update the apps. Then try to link your C by GE lights to Google Home again. If it doesn’t work, continue to the next step.
Reset Your C by GE Light Bulb
If the problem persists after trying all the fixes above, try resetting the light(s). Resetting the light will restore factory settings and unlink it from the Google Home app and the Cync app.
You can reset your C by GE light by turning it on and off 5 times—via the control switch. Once the light blinks, the reset is successful.
If the light doesn’t blink after turning it on and off 5 times, keep turning it on and off until it blinks.
