In this post, I’m going to walk you through the steps to set up your Govee plug, using the Govee Home app.
You’ll also learn how to integrate your Govee smart plug with Alexa and Google Assistant. Let’s begin.
Setting Up Your Govee Smart Plug
To set up a Govee Smart Plug, follow the steps below:
1. Get Your Govee Smart Plug Ready
Remove the Smart Plug from its packaging and ensure you have all the components, including the plug itself.
2. Download the Govee Home App
Install the Govee Home App on your smartphone or tablet. The app is available for iOS and Android devices and can be downloaded from the respective app stores.
3. Create a Govee Account
Launch the Govee Home App and create a new account if you don’t have one. If you already have an account, simply log in.
4. Connect the Smart Plug to power
Plug the Govee Smart Plug into an electrical outlet. Make sure the outlet is functioning correctly and has power.
5. Add the Smart Plug to the Govee Home App
Return to the Govee Home App and log in if required.
Tap the plus (+) icon in the top right hand or tap the Add Device button, usually located on the center of the home screen.
Enter your specific Govee Smart Plug model in the search bar. Tap on it when it pops up.
6. Put the Smart Plug in Pairing Mode
Your smart plug should automatically be in pairing mode once it receives power—this is indicated by a rapidly flashing light. If you don’t see a rapidly flashing light, press and hold the power button on the plug for about 8 seconds—until it starts flashing rapidly. Your Govee plug is now in pairing mode.
Next, the Govee app may prompt you to confirm that the plug is in pairing mode by blinking rapidly. Tap on any message on the screen that looks like “Confirm indicator rapidly blinks” or follow the instructions on the screen to confirm that your plug is pairing mode.
7. Connect the Plug to Wi-Fi
Now you’ll be prompted to enter your Wi-Fi credentials (name and password) in the Govee app. Make sure you enter them correctly and ensure that your Wi-Fi is on the 2.4GHz band.
8. Complete the Setup
After entering the Wi-Fi credentials, the Govee Home App will finalize the setup process. It will attempt to connect the Smart Plug to your Wi-Fi network. Wait for the app to confirm the successful connection.
9. Name and customize your Smart Plug
Once the Smart Plug is connected, you can assign it a name within the Govee Home App. You may also have the option to set schedules, timers, or create automation rules to control the plug remotely.
That’s it! You have successfully set up your Govee Smart Plug and can now control it using the Govee Home App.
