Meross Light Bulb Unreachable: How to Fix

In this post, I have covered five fixes to try if you’re having trouble controlling your Meross light bulb via the app. If that sounds like what you’re looking for, then let’s head right into it.

First off, if the app says your Meross light bulb is unreachable, here are some reasons behind this issue:

  • The control switch is off.
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal/unsupported Wi-Fi frequency.
  • The app requires an update.
  • The bulb is malfunctioning.

With that said, let’s look at what you can do to fix this issue.

Tips to Troubleshoot ‘Meross Light Bulb Unreachable’ Issue

1. Check the Power Source

As you probably know, your Meross smart light bulb needs power to stay connected. That is, the app can’t access the bulb if it is turned off. So if the app keeps showing that the bulb is unreachable, first check the power source before anything else.

Go over to the wall switch that controls the bulb and ensure it’s turned on. If it was already on, turn it off and then back on again.

Next, return to the app to see if the issue is fixed. If the problem persists, see the next step.

2. Restart Your Router

Another fix to try is restarting your router. Sometimes, issues like this could happen because the router is malfunctioning and needs power cycling.

You can restart your router by turning it off or unplugging it from the power source. Wait for about 30 seconds, then turn it back on and plug it back to the power source.

If this doesn’t help, continue to the next step.

3. Check Your Wi-Fi Frequency

Meross light bulbs (as of now) can only connect to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi frequency. If you have a dual-band router that changes bandwidth automatically, your bulb will disconnect whenever the router switches to the 5GHz Wi-Fi band.

Check your router and set it to run on the 2.4GHz frequency only. Next, check the app to see if the bulb is now online.

4. Update the App

As mentioned above, running an outdated version of the Meross app could result in issues like this. If you’re using an Android device, check Google Play Store to see if there are new updates to the Meross app and update it. For an iOS device, check Apple App Store and update the Meross app (if there are new updates).

More so, if you’re using a third-party app (like the Smart Life app), check and ensure you have the current version. Also, keep in mind that Meross devices work best with the Meross app. If you’re using a third-party app, you want to switch to Meross app for enhanced performance.

5. Perform a Factory Reset

If none of the fixes above help, perform a factory reset on the bulb and then start all over again to set it up.

  • Follow the steps below to reset your Meross light bulb:
  • Turn off the bulb via the control switch.
  • Now turn it on and off five times. Then turn it on and leave it on.

And that’s all you need to do to reset your Meross smart bulb.

Note that this action will erase all previous settings in the app, so you’ll need to set it up properly as you did when you first installed it.

Wrapping Up

As you can see, there are usually several factors behind this issue — “Meross light bulb unreachable/unresponsive”. So you want to ensure you try the different fixes to see which one works for you.

To recap, if your Meross light bulb is unreachable, check that the switch that controls the bulb is turned on. Next, restart your router, switch to the supported Wi-Fi frequency, update the app and reset the bulb.

If the issue persists, try contacting Meross support for help.
