Tips to Troubleshoot Meross Smart Switch Wi-Fi Connection Problems

If you’ve just purchased a Meross Smart Light Switch, you’ll need to install it on the wall and ensure the wires are connected properly. Consult an electrician to help you if you can’t handle this.

If you’ve completed the wiring/installation step and you’re having issues getting the smart switch to connect to Wi-Fi, keep reading to see what you can do to fix this problem.

Meross Smart Switch Troubleshooting

In short, if you’re unable to get your Meross smart switch to connect to Wi-Fi, reset the device. Then reboot your router and make sure it’s operating on the 2.4GHz network. This should resolve the issue.

Your Meross smart switch still won’t connect to Wi-Fi? Read on for a step-by-step guide on how to fix the problem.

Reboot Your Router and the Smart Switch

As mentioned earlier, the first place to look if your Meross smart switch won’t connect to Wi-Fi is your router. Your Wi-Fi might be malfunctioning, and you can fix this by rebooting the router.

To reboot your router, unplug the power cord from the power outlet. Then wait a few seconds (20-30 seconds) and plug the cord back in.

Next, reboot your Meross smart switch. Locate the reboot button on the bottom side of the device. Then press the button to reboot the switch.

The status light on the switch will blink red rapidly. This shows the switch is in Wi-Fi connection mode. Return to the Meross app and resume the setup.

If it fails to connect, continue to the next step.

Check Your Wi-Fi Band

As of now, no Meross smart switch works with the 5GHz Wi-Fi band. If your router is operating on 5GHz Wi-Fi, the switch may not connect.

If you have a dual-band router, you’ll need to set your Wi-Fi band to 2.4GHz only. The procedure to do this will vary depending on the brand of router you own. Check your router’s user manual for guidelines.

More so, make sure your phone (where the Meross app is installed) is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want to connect the switch to. And the phone should be connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi.

If this checks out and your Meross smart switch won’t connect to Wi-Fi, check the next step.

Check that Your Wi-Fi Password is Correct

You’ll need to enter your Wi-Fi password to connect the switch. Check whether you changed your Wi-Fi password recently and enter the correct one.

If you’re sure that your password is correct and the problem persists, see the next step.

Move Your Router Closer

If your Meross smart switch is not receiving sufficient Wi-Fi signals, it may not connect.

Check whether the switch is located too far from your router. If so, try bringing the router closer to boost the Wi-Fi signal strength.

Also, check that there’s no metal faceplate on the wall switch, as this will reduce the Wi-Fi signal strength.

Update the Meross App

You may also experience Wi-Fi connection problems if your Meross app is not up-to-date.

Check your app store to see if the Meross app needs to be updated. If so, update it and try to connect your switch to Wi-Fi again.

Reset Your Meross Smart Switch

If the fixes above don’t help, the next thing you want to do is reset the switch. The device might contain some errors that require a factory reset.

Before you reset the switch, check that it’s powered on. If you see a solid blue light on it, the device is off. Press the power button to turn it on.

Now, you can go ahead and reset the switch.

To reset your Meross smart switch, press and hold the power button (for about 5 seconds) until the LED indicator flashes red rapidly.

The rapidly blinking light indicates the switch is reset and is now in Wi-Fi connection/configuration mode.

Return to the Meross app and start the setup afresh. It should connect to your home Wi-Fi now.
