Owlet Cam Error OC01 [Quick Ways to Fix]
If your Owlet Camera is showing an OC01 error in the app and you’re not sure what that means or what to do, this post is for you.
If you see Cam error OC01 in your Owlet app, it means that your camera is facing Wi-Fi connection issues.
For details on how to troubleshoot this issue, continue to the next paragraphs.
How to Fix Owlet Cam Error OC01
Ensure that Your Camera is Plugged into a Working Power Outlet
If your Owlet camera isn’t producing any light when you get the OC01 error, your camera’s plug may have loosened from its power outlet. Hold the plug to check if it is still firmly plugged into the outlet.
Your camera may fail to connect to Wi-Fi after you’ve properly plugged the device into a power outlet. In that case, you can plug the camera into a new outlet to see if it will connect to Wi-Fi.
What if the camera doesn’t work after you’ve plugged it into a new outlet? Then, you’ll need to check that the camera’s USB cable is inserted properly into the device’s charging point. If the OC01 error still appears on your app after this, move on to the next step.
Enable Local Network Settings on Your Smartphone
If the status light is solid blue, your camera may fail to connect to Wi-Fi because it can’t communicate with your phone. You can fix this issue by enabling the local network settings on your phone. This problem is common with iPhones.
Follow these steps to activate your local network settings on your smartphone:
- Click on the Settings app on your phone.
- Next, select Privacy.
- Then, click on the On/Enabled switch beside Local Network to turn on your local network settings.
If your camera fails to connect to Wi-Fi after you’ve enabled local network settings, move on to the next step.
Check if the Owlet Cam-OCxxxx is on your Wi-Fi Network List
A blinking red and blue status light on your camera may indicate a network error. To confirm this error, you’ll need to check if the Owlet Cam-OCxxxx network is on your Wi-Fi network list.
Take the following steps to find your Wi-Fi network list on your phone:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Then, select Wi-Fi. In some phones, the Wi-Fi option may be under Network and Preferences.
- All the networks on your Wi-Fi network list will appear. Look for the Owlet Cam-OCxxxx on the list.
If you don’t find the network on the list, contact Owlet Customer Care and report the issue.
However, if the Owlet Cam-OCxxxx is on the list, but you still see the OC01 error, continue to the next step.
Change Your Wi-Fi Network to a 2.4GHz Band
Your Owlet camera is only compatible with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. So, the camera won’t connect to Wi-Fi if your router is broadcasting on a 5GHz Wi-Fi network.
As a result, you’ll get the OC01 error on your Owlet app. In this case, your camera may either show a solid blue status light or a blinking red and blue light.
If your router is broadcasting on a 5GHz Wi-Fi network, you’ll need to switch to a 2.4GHz network to use your Owlet camera.
How do you know whether your camera is connected to a 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi network? It may be difficult for you to tell just by looking at your Wi-Fi network list.
If you can’t identify the type of Wi-Fi network you are connected to, ask your ISP to rename your Wi-Fi networks. When your ISP has renamed the Wi-Fi networks, your 2.4Ghz network will appear as “myhomewifinetwork.” In contrast, the ISP will rename the 5GHz network as myhomewifinetwork5G.
Once your Wi-Fi networks have been renamed, go to the Wi-Fi network list on your phone. Then, click on “myhomewifinetwork” to switch to the 2.4GHz band.
If you want a more effective solution, you can set your phone to forget all Wi-Fi networks apart from the 2.4GHz network. To do this, tap on a network and click Forget Network in the list of options that appear.
If your Owlet camera does not connect to Wi-Fi after you’ve switched to a 2.4GHz network, try the next step.
Restart the Owlet Camera Setup Process
Is the status light on your Owlet camera a solid blue? Then, you may not have gotten a QR code while setting up the camera. This means that your camera is not properly linked to your phone.
As such, it can’t connect to Wi-Fi. To fix this issue, you’ll need to repeat the setup process for your Owlet camera and generate a QR code.
If the status light on your Owlet camera is blinking red and blue, you may also need to restart the camera setup process. A blinking red and blue light may indicate that you inserted the wrong information while setting up the camera. This often occurs when you use the Autofill option to enter your camera information.
Follow these steps to restart the setup process for the camera:
- Open the Owlet app. Then click on Account.
- Next, go to the My Devices tab and tap on your Owlet camera.
- A list of options should appear. Find the Delete option among them to remove your Owlet camera from the app.
- Now, close and restart the Owlet app.
- Next, turn on Location on your phone. This will let the Owlet app easily detect your location.
- Ensure that your camera is still plugged into a power outlet.
- Then, click on Set up an Owlet Device on the home screen of the app.
- The system will ask you to choose the device you want to set up. Click on Owlet Cam to continue.
- The app will now tell you that it is ready to pair. Also, the light on your camera will blink red and blue.
- Now, a QR code will appear on the app. Place your phone in front of the camera, with the phone’s screen facing toward the camera. Your camera will start scanning the QR code.
- Once the scan is complete, the app will also prompt you to enter information about your camera. Undo the Autofill option and fill each field manually.
- After filling all the fields, you’ll get the message: Pairing Successful on the app.
