Schlage FE595 Programming Code Not Working? (Solved)
In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps to resolve Programming Code issues with your Schlage FE595 Keypad Lock. If that sounds like what you’re looking for, then you want to keep reading. Let’s dive in!
How to Fix Programming Code Issues in Schlage FE595
1. Check Whether You’re Entering a Valid Programming Code
If your Schlage FE595 Programming Code isn’t working, the first step to troubleshoot this issue is to check that you’re entering the correct code. So, confirm that the code is correct and try to enter it again to see if it works. If it doesn’t, then chances are you might have lost/forgotten your current Programming Code, or perhaps there’s a glitch in your lock.
Continue to the next step for more troubleshooting tips.
2. Restore Factory Settings on Your Lock
Restoring factory settings on your lock will automatically erase the current Programming Code that isn’t working and replace it with the default Programming Code. So go ahead and reset the lock and then use the default Programming Code to reprogram it.
But before you do that, ensure you have the default Programming Code handy, as you’ll need it to reprogram the lock. You can find the default Programming Code on the back of the keypad assembly or on the front of the user manual—usually printed on a white sticker (along with two preset User Codes).
More so, keep in mind that all your custom settings will be erased after performing a factory reset on the lock. That is, you’ll have to start all over again to program the lock, just as you did when you first installed it.
That said, here’s how to perform a factory reset on your Schlage FE595 Keypad Deadbolt:
- Remove the battery cover and disconnect the battery.
- Press and release the Schlage button.
- Within 10 seconds, reconnect the battery and then press and hold the Schlage button until it flashes green and the lock beeps.
So that’s all you need to do to reset your Schlage FE595—and that should restore the default Programming Code.
Next, you’ll need to change the default Programming Code and User Codes for security reasons. If you’re not sure how to do that, see the following paragraphs.
Changing Default Codes in Schlage FE595
So after resetting your lock, you now have the default Programming Code and two User Codes, which you need to change to ensure security. Let’s start with how to change the default Programming Code:
- Find the default Programming Code on the back of the keypad assembly or on the front of the user manual—printed on a white sticker.
- Enter the default Programming Code and wait for the Schlage button to light three orange lights and the lock beep three times. Next, press the Schlage button.
- Press 3 and wait for the Schlage button to illuminate three orange lights and the lock beep three times.
- Enter a new Programming Code (6 digits) and wait for the Schlage button to light orange three times and the lock beeps three times.
- Re-enter the new Programming Code. If successful, the Schlage button will illuminate green, followed by one long beep.
And that’s all you need to do to change the default Programming Code to a code of your choosing. You can now use the new code for all programming function changes/settings.
How to Change the 4 Digit Code (User Code)
As you can see on the sticker (on the back of the keypad assembly or front of the user guide), the lock comes with two default User Codes, which you need to delete and add your own codes. Though you might have deleted these codes before, resetting the lock will restore the codes, so you’ll need to delete them again and add new unique codes.
That said, here’s how to delete the default User Codes (and any existing User Code):
- Enter your current Programming Code and wait for the Schlage button to flash orange lights three times and the lock beeps three times. Next, press the Schlage button.
- Press 6 and wait for three orange lights from the Schlage button, followed by three beeps.
- Enter your Programming Code again to complete the process.
This will delete the two default User Codes. Basically, you can delete all existing User Codes with this method.
Next, you’ll need to add new User Codes to lock and unlock your door via the keypad. Note that you can’t lock/unlock the door via the keypad if you don’t create new User Codes (after deleting the default User Codes). See how to add new User Codes below:
- Enter your current Programming Code and wait for the Schlage button to illuminate orange three times and the lock beep three times. Next, press the Schlage button on the keypad.
- Pres 1 and wait for the Schlage button to flash orange light three times, followed by three beeps.
- Now enter a new User Code (4 digits) and wait for the Schlage button to illuminate orange three times and the lock beeps three times.
- Re-enter the new User Code again to complete the process. The lock will flash green once, followed by a long beep—showing the new User Code has been successfully added.
Repeat the steps to add more User Code.
