7 Tips to Fix Mint Mobile Activation Problems
I got the Mint Mobile SIM card recently and did everything I thought was needed to set it up. However, I couldn’t activate the SIM.
After doing countless research into the activation issue, I was able to figure out the problem and get my new Mint Mobile SIM card working fine.
In this article, I have carefully explained the steps to follow to fix Mint Mobile activation problems.
The most common way to troubleshoot activation issues in the Mint Mobile SIM card is to ensure that you’ve successfully transferred your network to Mint Mobile. Then check that you have strong network coverage.
If the problem persists, keep reading for more details on how to go about it.
Troubleshooting Mint Mobile Activation Problems
1. Check that You’ve Finished Transferring Your Network
If you don’t transfer your phone from your old carrier to Mint Mobile, your SIM activation may fail. Even if you’ve already tried to transfer the network, the transfer might not be complete.
In that case, you’ll need to start and complete the transfer.
Before starting the transfer, ensure your service is still active with your previous carrier. The old carrier will deactivate the service automatically during the transfer.
Also, double-check the details you’ll need for this transfer. These details may include your name, transfer PIN, account number, and address.
Once you’ve confirmed the transfer details, contact your previous carrier and ask them to start the transfer. The carrier may send you an email when they’ve finished transferring your line.
Retry the SIM activation as soon as the transfer is complete. If you can’t activate your SIM after this, move on to the next step.
2. Examine the Network Coverage in Your Location
If you are experiencing issues while trying to activate your Mint Mobile SIM, the network might not be available in your area.
You can check if the Mint Mobile network covers your area by consulting the Mint Mobile Coverage Map. The map will ask you to enter your location or address into a search bar. Then, it will tell you if the network is available in your area.
Another way to check for network coverage in your location is to ask the Mint Mobile customer service.
If you are outside the network’s coverage area, you may need to move to a location with Mint Mobile coverage before retrying the activation.
But if you’ve confirmed that the network covers your area, yet you can’t activate the SIM, try the next tip.
3. Check Your Cellphone’s Compatibility with the Network
The Mint Mobile network does not work on some phone brands and models. If your phone falls into this category, you might be unable to activate your Mint Mobile SIM.
A quick way to check if your phone is compatible with the network is to enter the phone model on Mint Mobile’s Cell Phone Compatibility page. You can also input your phone’s IMEI number on the page to confirm its compatibility.
If you don’t know your IMEI number, dial *#06# on your phone to get the number. You can find your phone’s model name by going to the About Phone section in your Settings app.
If your phone is not compatible with the Mint Mobile network, you can replace the SIM with a SIM from another network.
4. Inspect Your SIM Card
One usual culprit responsible for Mint Mobile activation issues is a damaged SIM card.
To rule out this problem, you’ll need to examine your SIM card. Remove your SIM card and inspect it for cracks, focusing on the chip side. Also, check that your SIM tray isn’t damaged.
If you find any cracks in your SIM, report it to Mint Mobile Support and ask for a new one. You might also need to replace your SIM tray if you notice that it is damaged.
But if the SIM card and SIM tray are in good condition, re-insert your SIM into the phone. When re-inserting your SIM, make sure to place it correctly.
The proper way to insert a SIM card into an iPhone is face down. In contrast, most Android phones require the SIM to be placed face up.
Usually, this step fixes Mint Mobile activation issues. But if this isn’t the case, try the next step.
5. Clear Your Phone Cache
Constant phone usage clogs phone memory space with junk files. When this happens, your phone loads slowly and may develop bugs. This affects your device’s response to signals from the Mint Mobile network, thus causing activation issues.
You can remove minor bugs on your phone by clearing your phone’s cache.
Here’s how to delete the cache on your phone:
iPhone
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Scroll down to the Safari option. Then, tap it.
- Click on Clear History and Website Data.
- Now, tap the back arrow to go back to the Settings page.
- This time, select General.
- Then, click on iPhone Storage.
- You’ll see all the apps on your phone.
- Go through the list to find the apps that use the most memory. Facebook is often one of such apps.
- Once you see an app that uses a lot of memory, click on it and select Offload App.
- The system will notify you that the app will be deleted from your phone, but your saved documents and data will remain.
- Tap on Offload App again to confirm the action.
- Repeat this process for all the apps that consume most of the memory on your phone.
Android Phone
- Go to your phone’s settings.
- Selects Apps.
- All the apps on your phone will appear.
- Tap on each app on the list and click on Clear Cache to remove your phone’s cache.
6. Update the Firmware on Your Phone
Updating your phone’s firmware is another way to remove glitches that might affect your Mint Mobile SIM activation.
If you’re using an outdated firmware version, your device might malfunction at some point. If you want your smartphone to work properly and perform different processes quickly, you should update the firmware regularly.
Follow these steps to update your phone’s firmware:
- Connect your device to your Wi-Fi network.
- Navigate to the Settings app on your phone. Then tap on About Phone.
- If a software update is available, the Update option will appear.
- Click on Update.
- Select Install System Software. Then wait a few minutes for the installation to complete.
After updating your phone’s firmware, the system will prompt you to restart your phone. You should be able to activate your Mint Mobile SIM now. However, if the process fails, try the final tip.
6. Restart the Activation
If you can’t activate your Mint Mobile SIM card after trying all the tips above, you might need to start the activation afresh. Perhaps you made a mistake during the first activation.
Here’s the correct way to activate the Mint Mobile SIM card:
- Write down your 11-digit SIM activation code ahead of the activation. You should find this code on the back of your SIM. If you bought an e-SIM, the activation code would be emailed to you.
- Insert your cell phone’s Mint Mobile SIM Card.
- Connect your phone to Wi-Fi. Then enter mintmobile.com/activation to visit the Mint Mobile Activation page.
- Input your activation code into the Activation page.
- You’ll be asked to choose between keeping your current phone number or getting a new one. Choose your preferred option.
- If you decide to keep your current phone number, you’ll need to transfer the number to Mint Mobile. Contact your old service provider to transfer your number.
- Now, enter your billing information.
- Set up your cellphone’s APN (Access Point Name) settings. This step is only compulsory for Android phones. If you use an iPhone, the device may automatically update your APN settings.
- Text SETUP to 6700 on your Android phone to get the APN settings for your Mint Mobile SIM.
- Restart your phone to complete the activation process.
Your Mint mobile network activation issue should be resolved after this.
