How to Lock a Schlage Keypad Lock from Outside

If you’ve just moved into a new home with the Schlage Keypad Lock(s) on its door(s), you want to know how to operate the lock.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to lock a Schlage Keypad Lock (Schlage BE364, FE575, and FE959) from outside. If that sounds like what you’re looking for, let’s head right into it!

Locking the Schlage BE365 Keypad Lock from Outside

So here’s how to lock this Schlage Keypad Lock from outside:

Locking a Schlage keypad lock from outside

  • Press the Schlage button once.
  • Rotate the Thumb Turn away from the hinges. You’ll hear the deadbolt click into place, meaning your door is locked.

Note: If the Schlage Turn Lock/Lock & Leave feature is disabled, you’ll need to enter a valid User Code to lock the deadbolt. That is, you’ll need to press the Schlage button, then enter a valid User Code before rotating the Thumb Turn.

If your Schlage BE365 doesn’t lock by pressing the Schlage button and rotating the Thumb Turn, Lock & Leave feature might be disabled. See how to enable the Lock & Leave feature.

That said, you can also lock your Schlage BE365 Deadbolt from outside with the physical key. Insert the key into the keyhole and rotate it 90 degrees away from the door hinges.

To unlock your Schlage BE365 Keypad Lock from outside:

  • Enter a valid 4-digit User Code on the keypad.
  • The Schlage button will turn green.
  • Once you see the green light, rotate the Thumb Turn towards the hinges to open your door.

If you enter an incorrect User Code, the Schlage button will flash red and the lock won’t operate. If you enter an invalid code four times, the lock will shut down automatically. Wait 30 seconds before trying again.

Locking the Schlage FE575/FE595 from Outside

Your Schlage FE575/FE595 locks automatically after 5 seconds. So, you don’t need to do anything. Once you close your door, the lock will automatically relock after 5 seconds or so.

However, if your Schlage FE595 is set to Unlocked mode, it won’t relock automatically until you remove it from Unlocked mode. See how to enable/disable Unlocked mode in your Schlage FE595 Keypad Lock.

To unlock your Schlage FE575/FE595 from outside:

  • Enter a valid User Code on the keypad.
  • Rotate the lever to open the door.

More so, the Schlage FE595 comes with a keyhole that allows you to lock/unlock your door from outside by using the physical key.

Closing Thoughts

Depending on the model of your Schlage Keypad Lock (BE365), you can lock it from outside by pressing the Schlage button and rotating the Thumb Turn away from the door hinges.

Other Schlage Keypad Locks, such as FE595 lock automatically once your door is closed.

And for Schlage Keypad Locks (such as Schlage Encode, Schlage Sense, and Schlage Connect) that integrate with smart home systems, you can lock them through the app on your phone. They also feature manual operation, so you can lock them through the keypad/touchpad as well.
